Do you feel like you 'try so hard to eat healthy all day only to then ruin it in the evening'? This would have to be one of the most common statements I hear so I want to shed some light on this. Before you criticise yourself and your body for being like this, you must always remember that your body is perfectly designed. There aren’t faults in it, and if you believe there are faults, it is because you are over expecting and under delivering to yourself.
Every (and I mean every) single urge, craving and desire we get to over eat, emotionally eat or binge on is there for a reason. It is not because you have no motivation or willpower, it is because your body needs what it is craving for a particular reason. Sometimes this craving may not be what you deem as healthy, and sometimes it may be a craving that you would rather not have. Which is fine, but I assure you that by simply deciding to deny yourself the thing you are craving, rather than change what you are doing with your mind and body, your motivation to fight that craving will never last long term. And that is because your body knows better than you what it needs. So it will make it happen, regardless of whether you like it or not. So instead of fighting those urges and cravings, give in to them for just a moment, and pay attention to yourself. Pay attention to how you feel before you eat the foods you are craving, pay attention to what you are craving, and pay attention to when you eat the food you are craving. Actually think about the food, think about what it tastes like, think about what it smells like, think about how much chewing it needs and how it feels after you swallow it. This is mindful eating and it will answer questions for you if you DECIDE you really want the answers. Every single one of us is different so I cannot write here right now why you emotionally eat or crave foods. But some of the most common reasons I see are these:
Hope this helps you! Have a great day! Kerri x
