Our children ask us the most simplistic questions in the most un-simple ways.
When we see their negative behaviours it can feel frustrating to deal with - I get it, I don’t always have the patience I wish I did either. But if you unravel all the negative behaviours you nearly always arrive at them asking a really simple question… Do you see me, hear me, want me and love me? And of course our answer is yes, but in a complicated world where they don’t yet have the skills to navigate their many emotions and feelings, it can feel hard for them to really know and trust the answer. And while we do need to reassure them that we see them, hear them, want them and love them, we also need to teach them the skills to be able to know and trust in themselves to feel these things. |
I created our Happy Day Cards with 47 prompts after spending the few years using these exact mindfulness prompts with my 9 year old daughter, Reese, to help her navigate her own emotions, anxieties and worries that her little life faces her with.
And like her, many of our kids are struggling every day with fear, anxiety, worries, stresses and overwhelm, and the way we handle our children in these moments teaches them a lot about resilience, self-esteem, gratitude, coping, growth mindset and inner strength.
